Ellingham Village Hall was officially opened in April 2023 following an enormous effort to raise the funds required to build a hall fit for the community and for the 21st century. The new Hall replaces the former corrugated iron hut that stood on the site for over 120 years.

A new village hall for our community

Ellingham Village Hall was built to provide a community hub for the parish. Activities and events attract residents from our local villages, hamlets and farmsteads as well as visitors from the wider county and the many tourists who enjoy the beautiful Northumberland coast and hills. Do come and join us at one of our events or regular activities. The Hall is also available for private hire so please get in touch if you have an event in mind.

A long history

The original Hall was built as a reading room in the early 1900s. Little is known about the early history of the reading room however David Rowell & Co’s 1901 catalogue advertised a ‘church to seat 400 persons, delivered to the nearest railway station and erected on the purchaser’s foundation’, at a cost of £360.

The Hall served the community well as a place to read the newspapers, swap news and to see local men and boys off to two world wars. A toilet block was added at a later date while in 1999 a defibrillator was put in the porch. The interior of the hall was small and very basic while its corrugated iron exterior provided no insulation at all in cold weather. Sadly it was time to say goodbye to our much-loved old tin hut. The last Bingo Night was held in June 2022 after which point the bulldozers moved in. Within an hour the old hall had been completely demolished.
